Songs for January

So the new year has begun! I have no resolutions because time is just a concept created by humans so in essence means nothing… but I digress. However, I have stumbled across some absolute gems of songs both new and old that I’m going to share so here’s a list of my top 15 songs from my January playlist:

  1. Nights – Frank Ocean. Honestly this is one of my favourite songs of all time so will probably feature in other months too – The transition just kills me every damn time.
  2. Nightmares – Easy Life. I only just discovered this band and I am in love, they remind me of RATBOY and Jamie T yet still have their own unique sound. The vocals, the composition and just the vibe I get from these guys is great so they are definitely ones to watch.
  3. I Wish I Missed My Ex – Mahalia – Again, she is one to watch. The first time I heard this song I was hooked and I’ve had it on repeat ever since and after watching the Genius Lyrics breakdown I love it even more because its more than meets the eye.
  4. Sundress – A$AP Rocky. Ugh this song is perfect. The Tame Impala sample was really unexpected but it works so well as A$AP is such a versatile artist and this song definitely showcases his talent.
  5. Come Out and Play – Billie Eilish. For a 16 year old to consistently come out with such mature songs shows just how much of an amazing artist Billie really is and I’ve been following her now since she released the Don’t Smile at Me EP and I whilst I don’t think shes quite found her style yet, this song shows off her soothing voice beautifully.
  6. WHERE THE CAST AT – BROCKHAMPTON. I LOVE THESE GUYS. I discovered them just over a year ago and it was the best accidental click of my life. Their new album iridescence I will admit isn’t as strong as the SATURATION trilogy but there are songs like this one that really caught my attention because it’s so unique.
  7. DEAL – Miguel. I have been sleeping on Miguel for years and I regret it so much. His voice is incredible and the reason I chose this song in particular is because it’s just so upbeat and a real pick me up which is a great way to start the new year.
  8. Why Do You Feel So Down – Declan McKenna. This song again is so positive gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside both from Declan’s voice and the message. He is such an underrated artist and an incredible performer so I hope he gets more recognition this year.
  9. SICKO MODE – Travis Scott ft. Drake. Yes I really did put this in my top 15. I can’t lie it’s a good song and the video is visually stunning but it’s a shame it’s so overplayed.
  10. Black & White – Juice WRLD. I really like Juice WRLD because I think he’s an honest artist who’s found a unique style that works. This song may be about drugs but it has a nice flow so we’ll allow it.
  11. Let Down – Radiohead. BEST. BRIDGE. EVER. It is up there in being one of the greatest songs of all time, dare I say it is perfect but after just getting in to Radiohead in the last month I can’t wait to delve deeper into their discography because if these lyrics and composition is anything to go by I’m in for a treat.
  12. All The Stars – Kendrick Lamar, SZA. Yeah I never really gave this song a fair chance when it first came out purely because it was EVERYWHERE and whenever I hear the first few seconds I’d immediately turn it off but truthfully it’s a brilliant songs and Kendrick’s and SZA complement each other perfectly whilst the beat really makes it stand out.
  13. Unlock It – Charli xcx ft. Kim Petras and Jay Park. It’s the collab we never knew we needed. Now I am very impartial to anything Charli puts out because she has been my favourite artist since 2012 but this song from her Pop 2 EP particularly caught my attention because it’s so dreamy and the chorus gets stuck in my head for days. Despite Kim’s voice being insanely similar to Charli’s, she complements the song well with her little ad libs and Jay Park’s verse really adds a new dimension to the song.
  14. Again – Noah Cyrus ft. XXXTENTACION. The younger Cyrus sister yet just as talented. I must admit, I much prefer Noah’s sound to her sisters because there’s a dark and mysterious edge to Noah which really caught my attention and this song really compliments her voice and sets her out from other artists in the industry right now.
  15. SUNDOWN – Jack Harlow. I really like this song because its all about the area he lives in. His style reminds me of blend of G-Eazy and A$AP Rocky and as soon as the beat kicks in at the start of this song, you know it’s going to be worth the listen and it definitely is.

So there is is. my January playlist. I’d love to hear thoughts and any suggestions in the comments!

Jessie
